I think I need to shut this blog down. I'm not a fan of blogging in general, unless the blogger has some specific area of expertise or knowledge she or he can communicate through the blog. I'm not knowledgeable enough about anything to warrant this sort of activity. I suspect most bloggers are not. I think we would probably all be better off if we stopped expressing ourselves so much and read more books.
I suppose I could write about life at McFarland United Methodist Church, but the church is hardly big enough to require a running commentary online. I could theoretically write about theology or biblical studies, or print my sermons here, but I don't think there's much I can add to the fields of theology or biblical studies. I think most pastors are making most of it up as they go, anyway. Hopefully that's not the case with me, but again, everyone is probably better served if I spend valuable time in study.
I might also write about my family, and post pictures of the kids (as I have done), but I have a Facebook account, and I'm nervous about diving into this inane online world where every narcissistic soul has a blog, website, facebook page, myspace page, etc. Again, some people actually have something to say. I like the sites I've linked to here, for example. But most of this stuff is just silly. I could tell you about my thoughts on diet (as I have done), or music, or spirituality, but I don't flatter myself enough to think I have anything remotely original to say. Again, why not let's all go read books instead?
So I think for now at least I'm signing off. I'm going to take references to "Pastor Matt's blog" out of the McFarland UMC propaganda. If anyone has another suggestion please feel free to let me know. Thanks! Matt.

What to do...
I originally constructed this blog to serve as an unofficial website for McFarland United Methodist Church, but now that McFarland has an official site (see the link above), I'm not sure what sort of content to post here. So if you're a member of McFarland and you're reading this, respond to this post or send me an email with your suggestions (if any). What would you like to see on your pastor's blog? Matt.

Alice is Here
We're happy to announce that Alice arrived safe and sound at 2:45 A.M. Tuesday morning, July 1st. She weighs eight pounds and eight ounces, and is twenty inches long. We've settled on the name Alice Eleanor. Thanks for your prayers and support. To enlarge the photos below, click on them, and then click "slideshow" in the upper left portion of the new window that pops up. Matt.
